What Are Whole–Home Heat Recovery Ventilators?

In the winter, the heat recovery ventilator pulls in cold outside air and passes it through a heat exchanger. Simultaneously, the HRV will take warm, stale air from your home and pass it through the same heat exchanger. The two streams of air never mix but the heat from the warm air will pre–heat the cold incoming air which reduces the amount of energy that your furnace has to use to fully heat that air. In the summer, the process is reversed so that the cooler air leaving your home pre–cools the hot air coming in from the outside.
