Boilers remain a staple of heating here in the Northeast and in towns like Hartford, boilers can be found in both new homes and old. Boilers are designed to last a long time, but they still encounter problems every now and then, and when they do, you need a qualified repair service to address them. Here’s a short list of some common boiler problems and their symptoms. If you spot them, you should call a service technician immediately.

  • Leaks. Leaks can spring up around imperfect fittings or from breaches in the system anywhere along its length. In some cases, you can identify the leaks by the puddle of water created around it, but some leaks are so small that the water jus evaporates rather than dripping. You can spot them by checking the water pressure in the system. If it’s lower than it should be, you may be looking at a leak.
  • Mineral deposits. Hard water can create a slow build-up of sediment in the tank itself. This causes problems, since the build-up insulates the water from the heat source intended to warm it up. It will need to be cleared out before your water heater will function. Check your tridicator to see with the water temperatures or overall levels are lower than they should be.
  • Thermocouple problems. The thermocouple is a safety feature designed to regulate the flow of gas into the heater. If the pilot light goes out or there’s some kind of mechanical problem, the thermocouple won’t turn on. The good news is that it means your basement isn’t being flooded with gas. The bad news is that you’ll still need to get it fixed before your boiler works again. Spotting this one is fairly easy: your boiler simply won’t turn on.

If you experience common boiler problems and need help fixing them, then the experts at Dynamic Mechanical Heating & Air Conditioning are here to help. Pick up the phone and give us a call today if you need Hartford boiler services!
